Optimal choice [Dec. 26th, 2009|03:34 am]

[mood | worried]
[music |Just Say Yes - Snow Patrol]

I'm going to graduate in about a year or so. I still have no idea what I want to do after that, I'm sort of stressing about it. I had to write this down to clear my head and to define the options I have after graduating.

After graduating from the UP with a degree in BS Business Economics I will have the option to:

(options listed from most likely to least likely to be chosen)
  1. Work for a year or two in the Philippines then opt to get a Master's degree either in Finance or in Business Administration
  2. Take and pass the necessary exams (GMAT, TOEFL, etc.) then get a scholarship abroad for a part-time MBA program.
  3. Take and pass the necessary exams (GMAT, TOEFL, etc.) then get a scholarship abroad for a full-time MBA program.
  4. Take and pass the LAE and pursue a law degree in Ateneo or UP.

I'm really hoping that I get the motivation to get my lazy ass moving to fix the shit needed for number 2 and 3. I really don't want to end up working here in the Philippines. I have every intention of leaving the country after I graduate. The guilt trips I get from my professors do little to my too-self-centered-to-care attitude. Plus I believe that nationalism, identifying one's self as being part of a group of people who live in the same political territory, is just another tool of the ruling class to achieve better control over the masses. (This would have to suffice for nationalism is not the main concern of this entry.)

Sure, I feel guilty about the taxpayer's money going into my education. But not physically working in the Philippines does not necessarily equate to not returning the taxpayer's investment. If for example, I work in the US, I will technically be helping the US economy. A booming US economy would mean more dollars to go around, it can be in the form of US aid or OFW remittances.

But then again, I might just be rationalizing a want. Either way, I'm too sleepy to care.
